FAQs are a quick way of obtaining general information and often answers questions that you may not have thought to ask. We hope our FAQs will provide you with helpful information relating to storing your goods, and using the facilities here at Gateway Storage.
Self Storage facilities have a selection of unit sizes that you can rent ranging from a small locker to the size of a large single garage. You can rent the unit for a short term or for the long term (minimum charge is one month’s rent). You bring your goods to the storage centre, lock them in the unit you have pre-selected, and you can then access your goods as many times as you wish during customer access hours. Only you or someone you nominate, have access to your unit.
Gateway Storage is a family owned and operated self storage facility in the heart of Silverdale, 10 minutes north of Albany on the North Shore. Gateway Storage has 2,700 square meters of space for your possessions, housing 287 storage units, and has served over 2,000 customers since it’s opening in 2003. We still have customers storing with us today from when we opened in 2003!

We offer self storage solutions for customers in Whangaparaoa, Silverdale, Orewa, Gulf Harbour, Hibiscus Coast, Rodney and the North Shore.
The price you pay is determined by the size of the storage unit you need. Gateway Storage has over 40 different unit sizes ranging from 1 square metre lockers to 23 square metre garages. View our summary of storage unit sizes and prices.
At Gateway Storage you can store almost anything including household items, such as furniture, valuables, retail stock, tools, equipment, files, documents and sports equipment. We also provide vehicle storage for cars, boats, trucks, caravans and campervans.
Prohibited goods include, firearms & ammunition, flammable, hazardous or other dangerous goods, perishable foods, illegal or stolen goods, explosive or combustible goods. This includes gas bottles, petrol and petrol cans, drugs and drug associated chemicals and paraphernalia.
Electronic Security Key access, individually alarmed and monitored units, video surveillance, electrified and monitored security fencing, fire security, flood lights and lock checks.
Your access hours are 6.00 am to 10.00pm 7 days a week (24 hour by arrangement). We also have under cover, dry, all weather loading for your convenience.
The price for storage you are quoted includes GST. You will need a padlock to secure your unit door and we recommend you insure your goods whilst they are in storage. A refundable security deposit of $70 is payable at the commencement of storage and is refunded when you vacate your storage room once the Access Key is returned, and subject to the unit being clean and undamaged.
For long term storage, if you pay 11 months in advance, you get the 12th month free.
Rent is payable monthly in advance. However, we only ask for seven days’ notice when you vacate your unit and we refund any unused rent.
You are required to pay a minimum of one month’s storage fees, however, you are welcome to stay for as little or as long as you require.
You can move in on the same day you make your booking (during office opening hours) providing you have the relevant documentation needed to complete and sign your Licence Agreement. A driving licence, payment of a deposit and the first month’s rent must be made prior to moving in.

Our preferred method of payment is by direct credit (online banking), or Automatic Payments for long term customers. However, we can hold your credit card on file, and process rent automatically for you, or you can phone in each month to make credit card payment over the phone. We accept EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard, Amex.
Insurance is ultimately your responsibility and your decision, however we advise you to insure your goods whilst in storage.
You can come and go as you please, 7 days a week during customer access hours (6am – 10 pm. 24 hours by arrangement).
You have to take your belongings to our storage centre. Our facility has car parking and large loading/unloading areas. Need a removal company? Gateway Storage customers can take advantage of special discounts arranged with local removal companies from within the Hibiscus Coast area.
You can easily move to another size room at any time, depending on your storage requirements and the availability of other unit sizes in our facility.
We have trolleys available free of charge for customer’s use.
Yes, we offer flexible contracts for short or long term self storage. There is no minimum stay, though a minimum of one month’s rent is required. We offer a discount for long term storage; pay 11 months in advance and get the 12th month free.

After the first month minimum charge, a 7 day notice period is required of your intention to vacate. We refund unused rent and refund your Security Deposit subject to the unit being left clean, undamaged, and the Access Key being returned on move-out.

18 Flexman Place Silverdale. Our storage centre is easily accessed from the base of the Silverdale Hill on the Hibiscus Coast Highway. Being only 3 minutes from the motorway exit at Silverdale, it’s very convenient for customers from Albany and the North Shore. We also have storage options available at 18 Siesta Terrace, Gulf Harbour, Whangaparaoa.
